Election policy statement:
For years we have seen this area robbed. Jobs have gone. Hospital services and provision for pensioners have been reduced. Schools, libraries and community centres have been closed and young people left on the streets. We are now all poorer and more divided.

Communists say that the Scottish Parliament can and must do something about this.

Its full tax raising powers are needed to attack poverty, improve social services and create jobs. In the Govan constituency we need BOTH the Victoria and the Southern General Hospitals. We need to repair our council houses - not sell them. We need action on jobs - and if Kvaerner can't guarantee them, Parliament should be ready to take the yard back into public ownership.

Only jobs and real resources will make it possible to rebuild our communities and end racism, despair and discrimination. The resources are there. The cost of just one of the missiles fired off by Clyde-based nuclear submarines would buy an all-in sports centre. We need a change. That's why we ask you to vote Communist.

Personal details used in election:
John Foster is chair of Govan Community Council, secretary of Central Govan Tenants, and has lived in the area for over 20 years. He teaches at Paisley University, has a young daughter and is Scottish Secretary of the Communist Party of Britain.
