- Election policy statement:
- I am committed to making the Scottish Parliament work for the people of Cathcart. The new Parliament must address the issues that impact on peoples' lives. We must not allow it to be held back by arguments for yet more change towards independence.
I want to concentrate on:
- making people feel safe in their homes and on the streets in Cathcart
- tackling the drugs problem
- getting the best possible hospital provision for South Side people in the next century
- ensuring that local schools meet the needs of pupils and parents
- achieving a sensible balance between the needs of car and public transport users.
My commitment is to work co-operatively in the new Parliament to promote the interests of the people of Cathcart and of Glasgow.
- Personal details used in election:
- Mary Leishman has worked in retail and in local government, where her training role ranged across all Council departments. She now runs her own training consultancy business. Mary's work is mostly with small businesses and with women returners to the job market. Presenting training courses for organisations in Cathcart has given her a good understanding of job issues in the area.
Mary is married with three school age children and so understands the issues faced by families and working mothers.
