Election policy statement:
DONALD MACGREGOR WANTS THINGS TO HAPPEN LOCALLY: Among his targets are:

To press the Scottish Parliament for funding for a new secondary school to serve the Wormit / Newport / Tayport area - to take the strain off cramped existing schools and to cut out the many hours of travelling by bus for hundreds of children.

To press for a greatly extended hospital in St Andrews;

To press the Scottish Parliament to help local communities in the East Neuk and elsewhere with the costs of fuel and other costs that make our daily living more expensive than in urban areas;

To press for a Royal Commission to examine the structure of local government in Scotland following the establishment of the new Holyrood parliament;

To press for more affordable housing for rent or for sale so as to reduce waiting lists and to give back to councils the right to use council house sales receipts for building new houses.

Donald Macgregor is standing as an INDEPENDENT. He believes it is wrong that only members of political parties should put up candidates. The Scottish Parliament was supposed to be something fresh and new - but it's not looking that way. People are fed up with party bickering, sleaze, and with party politicians who make extravagant promises they cannot fulfil. All the other candidates trot out their party's policies - and in the end they owe allegiance first and foremost to their party - Donald Macgregor owes allegiance only to the people of North East Fife, where he has lived all his adult life.

Personal details used in election:
A good MSP has experience - Donald Macgregor was eight years a District Councillor, was chairman of housing, of the licensing board, and sat on numerous public bodies. He is the only candidate who has been part of a responsible administration.

A good MSP has a record of service - Donald Macgregor was three times chairman of St Andrews Community Council, and is an elected General Council Assessor on the University Court. He was on the management committee of the Citizens' Advice Bureau, has taught since 1963 at Madras College, and is a member of Madras School Board. He is an Hon Life member of Fife Athletic Club, and a former President of the Scottish Cross Country Union.

A good MSP has to work hard - Donald Macgregor has proved throughout his public and professional career that he can do that. He also ran for Scotland at two Commonwealth Games and came seventh for Britain in the 1972 Olympic Games marathon - an event for which many years of dedication are needed. If elected he will be available for personal consultation on a very frequent basis - at least once a week on a regular schedule throughout the constituency.

A good MSP has to work with and for everyone. If elected, Donald will be well placed to work with the Westminster MP, whom he has known and been on friendly terms with for 35 years in athletics and in local affairs. He will take up matters raised by all his constituents, whether or not they share his views.

A good MSP has to have other interests besides politics. As well as being a runner, Donald has three teenage children who are all at local state schools, has experience of writing and broadcasting, and is on many committees that attempt to meet people's needs and concerns.
