Election policy statement:
Jackson Carlaw is Fighting Back for Eastwood.
For me this election is about several key but crucial issues.
- A new fully resourced hospital with the very latest Accident and emergency facilities to replace the Victoria, to be built on Glasgow's south side. This is it, the really big issue of this campaign.
- People's priorities before politician's perks!
- What a waste of our money, the new Scottish Parliament Building 'Follyrood' is!
- Halt the 'Brutalisation of Eastwood'. Our local infrastructure needs investment.
- Bring East Renfrewshire Council's government grant up to the Scottish average - an increase of over £200 per person.
- £45m more for police presence on our streets as part of a tough new 'zero tolerance' Neighbourhood Protection Policy.

A NEW HOSPITAL
I was dismayed when Labour and the Liberal Democrats voted in the Scottish Parliament to close the Victoria Accident and Emergency and to deny us a new hospital on Glasgow's south side.
I will fight to reverse this decision and for a new fully resourced hospital, with the most modern Accident and Emerge facilities to be built on Glasgow's south side.
I will fight to improve ambulance and paramedic response times in our community.

PEOPLE'S PRIORITIES
I will campaign for a buyer to be found for the new Scottish Parliament building, 'Follyrood' and for this money to be spent on our priorities. It could for example, pay to build three new hospitals! The Scottish Parliament can perfectly successfully stay where it is.
Scottish Conservatives are pledged to reduce the number of MSPs as originally envisaged by 21 to 108, to half the number of ministers, streamline and reduce the number of committees and I personally will campaign to cut the number of fancy chauffeur driven limos and end the perk culture. We need some down to earth common sense focus on what matters to us!

STOP THE BRUTALISATION
I will work to change the emphasis within our 'Local Plan' on unsustainable and unsympathetic development.
I will work to ensure a fair deal in the Scottish Government local grant funding for East Renfrewshire and for our grant to at least equal the Scottish average - an increase of over £200 per person, I will campaign for more money to be spent on our local roads and for a cleaner and safer environment both in our immediate community and in our local parks and public facilities.
I will oppose any attempt to initiate a property revaluation as this would have a effect on many Eastwood families.

POLICE
Scottish Conservatives pledge to spend an additional £45 million to put more police on our streets as well as requiring all police boards to prepare a tough new Neighbourhood Protection Policy designed to deliver a 'zero tolerance' approach to community policing.
The would also provide for Neighbourhood Protection Units to have the power to issue fixed penalties to deal with quality of life issues such as dropping litter, dog fouling and supervising community Service Orders and dealing with anti-social nuisances.

BOOST BUSINESS AND EMPLOYMENT
Scottish Conservatives are committed to reinstating the Uniform Business Rate across the UK. Scottish business currently pays 9% more than business in England. I will also oppose any attempt to return the setting of Business rates to local authorities.
Scottish Conservatives pledge to cut pointless regulation. Labour and the Lib Dems have introduced over 1000 new regulations since they came to power. Unnecessary red tape and planning regulation stops new businesses developing.
I will oppose proposals for city road tolls, which will inevitably have a drastic impact on Eastwood families
Far too few of the existing Scottish MSPs have any business experience!
I will contribute to an understanding of business and employment issues.

MY APPEAL TO YOU
Good intentions cannot deliver for you. Nor can they win elections.
On Thursday May 1st make sure Eastwood is effectively represented in the Scottish Parliament by getting up and out to vote.
Vote Jackson Carlaw. Vote Scottish Conservative.

Fighting Back For Eastwood!
JACKSON CARLAW shares the deep concern of most Eastwood residents about the 'brutalisation' of our community. We see this in many ways:
- Excessive and unsympathetic local development
- Roads and pavements in desperate need of investment
- The deliberate axing of vital services by Labour and the Lib Dems such as the Victoria Infirmary and the decision to deny us a suitable hospital to serve the Eastwood community
- Pensions being reduced by Labours annual £5bn raid on the pension funds
- Continuing fear of crime
- Money being transferred away from Eastwood into Glasgow with the agreement of Labour/Lib Dem councillors
Our local Labour politicians all pat themselves on the back. None of them stand up to one another and fight for Eastwood.
The Liberal Democrats in power locally and in Edinburgh have failed; they are now part of the problem not the solution.
Jackson Carlaw is fighting back for Eastwood, 'I am fed up with all these crony politicians congratulating each other whilst the Eastwood community is 'brutalised'. Having lived locally all my life, I am determined to fight back! I will
- fight for a new hospital
- for more police
- for much needed investment in our roads and pavements. Eastwood residents need an effective voice arguing on their behalf and they can trust me to be exactly that.'
On May 1st vote for an effective voice for Eastwood;
Vote Jackson Carlaw, Scottish Conservative.

Jackson Carlaw pledges to:
1. To fight for a new hospital to replace the Victoria
2. To put more police on the streets of Eastwood
3. To put your priorities first not those of the politicians
4. To stop the 'brutalisation' of Eastwood

'People Priorities First!'
Nothing symbolises the lack of direction of the Scottish Parliament more than the shambles and disgrace of the new Parliament building itself. A £40m project is now set to cost almost £400m of tax payers money
£400m would build a fully resourced hospital to replace the Victoria and a second hospital elsewhere.
Since the Scottish Parliament was established the civil service in Scotland has increased by 30%, there are four times more government ministers and the chauffeur driven car fleet has trebled. On top of which they can now find £80k for a new reception desk!
Jackson Carlaw fully understands why this is turning so many people off.
Jackson Carlaw will fight to:
(a) Cut the number of ministers by half.
(b) Slash the limo fleet.
(c) Reduce the number of MSPs by 21, as originally intended.
I will fight to end the perk culture and put your priorities first.

So the local Labour/Lib Dem Council have now voted to increase your Council Tax by over 50% since 1996 while inflation has increased by only 19%.
The Labour/Lib Dem Scottish Executive now spends £500 per head more on Glasgow residents than it does on Eastwood residents and Scotland as whole gets £200 per more per person than do we.
Labour continues to raid your pension funds by £5bn every year!
Scotland's businesses now pay 9% more in Business Rates than the rest of the UK.
From April your family started feeling the full force of Labours 2002 tax rises with more to come!
Tax and spend has failed to improve our public services. Jackson Carlaw believes individuals and businesses are being overtaxed. Only the Conservatives are committed to reducing your tax bill: locally and nationally. On May 1st vote to end the relentless stealth taxes;

Personal details used in election:
Dear Eastwood Resident,
I have grown up and lived locally all my life and I am now raising my own family in Eastwood.
I am standing in this election because I believe that our community is not being effectively represented in the Scottish Parliament.
I believe I can contribute to improving the quality of the argument in the Scottish parliament and to ensure that Eastwood's voice, your voice is effectively heard.
I bring 25 years business experience and a lifetime of local knowledge to the job. I understand how to resolve problems and to work for and be measured by results.
On May 1st I ask you to vote for me so that I can lead the fight back for our community.
All I ask is the chance to serve.
With best wishes,
Jackson Carlaw
