Grace Campbell
Working in the Scottish Health Service, I know how our public services are in decline.
I'm proud to live in the Constituency of East Kilbride and Strathaven.
If elected, I will put the needs of patients over politicians, increase the number of police on our streets and stop the rise in street crime.
I will ensure parents have a real say in their children's education and listen to those in our rural communities
Dr Campbell says:
I have worked in the Scottish Health Service for 16 years. As a General Practitioner, I am more than aware of the 20% increase in hospital waiting lists under the Labour/Liberal Government, and how this affects our community. Hairmyres Hospital was recently voted one of the DIRTIEST hospitals in Scotland.
The Scottish Tories would devolve power back to the GPs, both health and social budgets, so that GPs can get the best care for their patients.
The Scottish Tories are committed to a Scottish Health Service available to everyone and free at the point of need. We would allow hospitals to apply for Foundation status. This would give hospitals more freedom to set their own pay scales, and respond to local need.
Our community has a major Drug Problem.
East Kilbride has one of the highest rates of drug related deaths in Lanarkshire. Street crime is rising and our local council seems oblivious to the problem.
The Scottish Executive War on Drugs is a policy in name only. If elected I would have a Zero Tolerance on drug dealers, Zero Tolerance on drug related street crime and Zero Tolerance on the misery caused by drugs in our communities"
Dr Campbell says:
Our rural way of life is under threat. The Liberals have abandoned rural Scotland for a pact with Labour, the Nationalists are focussed on the urban Labour vote and Labour couldn't care less.
Only the Scottish Tories understand the distinctive needs of rural Scotland, and only the Scottish Tories will place countryside issues at the heart of our political agenda. If elected I would defend the rights of all those who live and work in the countryside. The Tory Party would restore the uniform business rate and fight to retain our village shops and post offices.
Scotland's rural economy is on its knees and Labour and their Liberal lapdogs have proved they are not up to the job. What faith can you have in a Scottish Executive that doesn't even mention rural Scotland in its list of priorities? You can trust only the Scottish Tories if you care about the countryside.
Dr Campbell says:
Labour and the LibDems are failing our children.
The Scottish Tories will create choice and diversity by encouraging existing schools to specialise in faith, vocational, sport and language education.
The Scottish Tories will listen to parents and devolve more power to local schools by extending the scope of the Devolved School Budget Scheme.
We will safeguard the future of rural schools by introducing a rural schools guarantee as in England.
If elected, says Dr Campbell, I pledge to maintain the balance of faith schools in our community and encourage further diversity.
