- Best for older people
Pensioner Rita Meres says Labour is best for older people: "Free local off-peak bus travel has been a real boost to city pensioners and I am thrilled that Labour will extend the scheme. Lewis Macdonald works hard for the city and gets things done, and he knows there is more to do. That's why I'm voting Labour on May 1."
Best for first time voters
Student Laura King says Labour is best for younger voters: "This is the first time I'll have voted, and I see it as a choice between Lewis Macdonald, a guy who gets things done, and other candidates, who talk a lot but don't deliver. I'm at college, and I think Labour are the only Party that will open up opportunities for young people like me."
Best for the NHS
Dr Howard Gemmell says Labour is best for the NHS: "Modernising our Health Service is Scotland's greatest challenge. Labour has ended the internal market and boosted investment. That must be backed up by a radical change in the way we deliver care, putting the patient first. I believe Labour and Lewis Macdonald will get the job done."
Best for families
Alison Whimster says Labour is best for families bringing up children: "Our kids have all gone to St Machar Academy," says Alison, a member of the School Board. "Lewis worked with parents at both schools when St Machar and Linksfield were dealing with the merger last year. Labour knows that a school is at the heart of the community."
Labour working for you in Aberdeen Central: building for the future
Labour is building for the future in Aberdeen. Through the Scottish Parliament, we will continue to invest where it brings the most benefits to the most people.
- A Western Peripheral Route, to cut congestion
- The Scottish Energy Institute, to secure jobs
- A new Children's Hospital, for the best of care
- The biggest ever schools improvement scheme
Political parties that talk down Aberdeen do our city no favours. Europe's energy capital plays a key role in the Scottish economy. Voting Labour puts Aberdeen at the heart of Scotland's government.
Class sizes are down
Labour has extended nursery education and reduced class sizes in the early years of primary school, as we said we would. Now we will cut class sizes in the first two years of secondary school - the stage that makes the most difference to many youngsters. And we will invest in both primary and secondary school buildings across the city.
Building better health
Putting patients first and making the best use of record investment are Labour's priorities in the NHS. Lewis Macdonald says: "We have more nurses, more doctors, and n higher level of investment than ever before. Now, Labour will guarantee an appointment with a GP, nurse or member of the local health team within 48 hours."
Cracking down on crime
In Aberdeen City recorded crime has fallen and clear-up rates are up, but there is still a lot to do to make our communities safer. Police numbers are up, and Labour will further increase Grampian Police funding to let them get on with the job. Lewis Macdonald will continue to support local communities hit by drug-related crime.
Jobs for the future
Future prosperity needs future jobs. That means securing established employers like Richards; bringing new jobs to the North Sea through the Scottish Energy Institute, which Labour will set up in Aberdeen; and raising the number of apprenticeships across Scotland from 20,000 to 30,000 in the next four years.
Lewis Macdonald, your Labour candidate for Aberdeen Central says: "I was proud to deliver free local off-peak bus travel for a million pensioners across Scotland."
In two years as deputy transport minister, Lewis Macdonald has had a lot of big decisions to make. Free local bus travel for elderly and disabled people is one he is particularly proud of. "It's transformed the lives of thousands of people in Aberdeen Central," he says. "Now they can go into town just as often as they want. On top of free personal care and the Warm Deal initiative, it is Labour delivering for the generation who've earned it." Now, if elected, Labour will extend free concessionary fares to bus journeys across Scotland.
Dear Voter
This election is about the services that matter most to the people of Scotland; how to achieve a first class health service, raise standards in our schools, modernise our transport network, secure jobs and cut crime.
A new children's hospital for Aberdeen will open this year. There is more staff on the wards, and in the classrooms, and a nursery place for every 3 and 4 year old. Local off-peak bus travel is free for the over-60s. There are new jobs at the Food Standards Agency, new oil companies in the North Sea, established employers like Richards have been secured. We have more police officers now, with more to follow.
But there is a good deal still to do. If you re-elect me for a further term as your MSP, I will continue to get things done on the issues that matter to Aberdeen.
Labour will deliver the Western Peripheral Route as part of a modern transport system and the Scottish Energy Institute as a means of creating jobs for the future. We will work to build on the city's strengths in health and education, and champion communities hit by drug-related crime. And Labour will build on free local bus travel for pensioners by creating a national scheme for the whole of Scotland.
With your support, I look forward to working for you again in Aberdeen Central after May 1.
Yours faithfully
Lewis Macdonald
