Election policy statement:
Elaine Thomson
"A huge amount of my time in the last parliament was spent putting Aberdeen's case for a bypass. We succeeded because we put forward a strong, well-argued case, and persuaded ministers of the benefits. Now we need the same positive approach to making sure the work gets under way as soon as possible."
"One of the biggest tasks that Jack McConnell has identified is dealing with crime and disorder. We've made a start - the Drug Enforcement Agency has had some notable successes, and we've created new powers to seize drug dealers' assets. But we need to do more, and Labour will bring in more police, more crime prevention programmes, and tougher sentences for the worst offenders."
"Labour is helping families and children more than ever. In Scotland, we introduced nursery places for three and four year olds. At Westminster, Gordon Brown's new family tax credit is giving a boost to thousands of working families. Working together gives us real benefits that would be put at risk by breaking up the UK.

"I've had the privilege of representing Aberdeen North in the Scottish Parliament for the past four years. I'm proud to have campaigned to improve our schools, our transport, and our economy. On May 1st I would like to ask for your support so we can continue to build a better Scotland."

Schools & hospitals first
"I'm pleased to see the new Aberdeen Childrens Hospital is well on the way to completion. We are putting record sums of money into the NHS. Nurses and other staff are getting better pay, and new hospitals are being opened.
We're treating more patients than ever before, and have brought down waiting times for the most serious conditions.
Schools too are seeing the biggest investment for many years, both in staff and in equipment.

Looking after older people
"Pensioners across Aberdeen have told me how much they are benefitting from Labour decisions at Holyrood and in London. Free personal care, winter heating allowances, guaranteed minimum income, free bus travel - all since Labour came to power. Now we pledge to extend the free bus travel scheme to allow journeys anywhere in Scotland."

They said it:
"Glasgow are quite clear that they don't believe that they get enough money ... That's what we need to look at fundamentally."
- Trish Marwick, SNP local government spokesperson (on BBC radio). So much for the so-called champions of the North East!

Actions speak louder than words!

Aberdeen North - a close contest
Aberdeen North was closely fought between Labour and the SNP at the last election.
The Liberals and Conservatives were a long way behind.
Many of their supporters are now backing Elaine in the constituency vote.
"We want politicians who will focus en the issues that matter, like schools, crime and hospitals. We don't want to spend years trying to divide Scotland from the UK.", said a Dyce voter.
"We see the nationalists all the time making promises they can't keep," a man in Bridge of Don told us. "They don't tell us where all the extra money is to come from."
While the SNP concentrates on splitting up the UK. Elaine has been working with the Labour/Lib Dem executive to deliver real results for the people of Aberdeen.

"I'm proud to have campaigned to improve our schools, our transport, and our economy. On May 1st I would like to ask for your support so we can continue to build a better Scotland."

While other parties spend their time finding ways to get in the papers, Elaine has worked in parliament with other Labour representatives to deliver real results for the people of Aberdeen.
