Election policy statement:
Quality Health Care for all
Labour in Scotland is proud of its health care. Central Fife residents will benefit from the £4.1 million investment in the Victoria Hospital. The new Accident and Emergency Unit is already operational and the new stroke and cancer unit will be open in 2004. Our target is to guarantee a health appointment within 48 hours.

New jobs and industry
Although unemployment in Scotland has reached a 25-year low, there are still black spots in Central Fife and Levenmouth. Christine May recently met with Scottish Ministers and Scottish Enterprise to discuss this and she will continue to press for more job opportunities.

Education and training
Labour Ministers in the Scottish Executive are now developing the largest investment in new school building programmes since the late 1940s. Spending has increased by 27% and Fife will see 13 new schools including a new Primary School in Kennoway. 30,000 modern apprenticeships will also mean more jobs for young people in Fife.

Good Transport links
Fife residents need good transport links in order to get to work, to shop and to travel on business. The Scottish Executive and Fife Council are committed to spending over £12 million in Central Fife on road and rail improvements, including the A92 and Markinch Railway Station Interchange.

Christine May is contesting Central Fife as the Scottish Labour and Co-operative candidate. She has been a hard-working local councillor for 15 years.
- Quality Health Care in Central Fife
- Jobs and economic prosperity
- New schools, education and training
- Tackling crime, disorder and drugs
Central Fife Constituency is made up of Glenrothes, Leven, Methil, Kennoway, Buckhaven, Markinch, Leslie, Windygates, Coaltown-of-Balgonie, Milton and Star. Each community has different priorities but we all want good education for our children and grandchildren, a pleasant environment, safe streets and good health care.

Free Personal care
All elderly residents in Central Fife who require help are now entitled to free personal care. This was a promise made and kept by Scottish Labour Ministers. In addition one-and-a-half million hours of home care will be delivered to Fife's elderly residents this year.

Nursery places for 3-year olds
Nursery provision is a top priority for the Labour Party in Scotland. Here in Fife we are providing free nursery places for all 3 year-olds whose parents wish nursery facilities. We are expanding childcare in Fife to allow parents more opportunity to work, or return to study.

Travel for Elderly and Disabled
The Scottish Parliament has given every elderly and disabled person in Scotland free off-peak local bus travel. From 1 April men over 60 have qualified for the concession. Here in Fife an outstanding bus and rail concession scheme has been provided by Labour since the 1980s.

Fighting crime and disorder
The Scottish Executive continues to introduce new measures to tackle drug dealing, crime and anti-social behaviour. Christine May fully supports new laws to deprive drug dealers of their assets. Christine also fully supports tough action against anti-social neighbours.

Dear Elector, Since 1999 the Scottish Parliament has delivered key improvements in health care, education and services for the elderly and disabled. Other key issues such as the environment, employment and training and tackling crime have also been important. I ask for your support on May 1st. My priorities will be jobs, health, education, good public transport, care of the elderly and disabled and a safe, clean environment. Together we will improve the quality of life for the whole community of Central Fife and for Scotland.

More nurses, more teachers, more police, more jobs, strong local communties

Personal details used in election:
Dear Voter
I am proud to have been selected as the prospective Scottish Labour and Co-operative Party candidate for Central Fife. I was previously a catering manager and lecturer at Fife College and I have lived in Fife with my Dunfermline-born husband since 1984. We have a grown-up son and daughter. As a member of Kirkcaldy District and then Fife Council since 1988, I have represented and worked on behalf of the people of Fife for 15 years, locally, nationally and in Brussels. Since 1998 I have had the privilege of leading Fife Council's administration, and have worked in Central Fife for almost 10 years. As an experienced campaigner my vision is for a prosperous, safe and healthy Central Fife. No matter where you live in the constituency, I will work tirelessly on your behalf to increase jobs, improve housing, encourage better public transport, increase investment in education and schools, and to bring about improved health provision and care for the elderly and disabled. I also wish to see more investment in the Levenmouth area and more use made of Methil as a port. In every town and village I am happy to work closely with local groups and organisations. I have always enjoyed politics, but I also enjoy reading, music, cooking and the company of friends.
Yours faithfully
Christine May
