Election communication
Jean Pratt lives with her husband Alex and their two girls in Cumbernauld, she said "Cathie was there to give me and my family help and assistance in dealing with a very serious housing problem. She was there when we needed her help and the problems have now been solved, we will be supporting Cathie"
EDUCATION IS A PRIORITY
Mary Coyle lives with her family in Kilsyth, she is a Primary Head Teacher and said: " the Labour Party has given education a high priority in the Scottish Parliament. I have seen resources increase over the last four years. Cathie has demonstrated her commitment to delivering for schools, I'll be supporting Cathie and Labour".
MEETING HEALTH DEMANDS
Maria, a health care professional, lives with her family in Cumbernauld, she said "I work in a frontline service where additional investment is making a real difference, meeting the demands of the NHS is not easy. I know Cathie has represented her constituents well. She and Labour have my vote for a secure future for the NHS.
EDUCATION FOR ALL
Mark lives in Croy, his family are very proud of him, as the first in the family to go to university. Mark said "labour do believe in educational opportunities for everyone, while at school Cathie encouraged me and many other young people. I'll be voting Labour, they are the only party who will ensure we all have an equal chance to be all we can be"
Since being elected in May 1999 I have worked hard on behalf of the people of this area. I have campaigned on many issues and assisted thousands of constituents.
- Additional money for schools
- Improved local health facilities
- Road and transport improvements
- Free local bus travel for pensioners
If re-elected I will continue to work on the issues that are important to the people of Cumbernauld & Kilsyth; health, education, transport, crime, environment and our town centre
SUPPORT FOR PENSIONERS
We have delivered improved services to pensioners, I want to see continued service improvements. Nan Stanners has made good use of her free Local Bus Pass, we will extend free bus travel Scotland wide and I will work towards providing support for our pensioners who have partial or inefficient central heating systems.
IMPROVING THE NHS
We want to see an NHS that is well resourced and equipped. Labour will work to reduce waiting times, to have hospitals that are clean and well equipped, and because we recognise the importance of health care at a local level we will guarantee an appointment with a GP, nurse or member of the Local Health Team within 48 hours.
EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN
We invested in education over the last four years, I want to see levels grow, to see all our schools modernised, resourced and equipped to the standards set in our new schools. Class sizes are reduced in the early years of primary school; in the next four years we will reduce class sizes in the key stages of secondary school.
TACKLING CRIME
We want to see the level of crime continue to drop. In Cumbernauld & Kilsyth we have a good record, crime is well below the Scottish average. Many crimes of violence and theft are drug related. Working with police we are targeting anti-social behaviour and drug dealers, in the next four years we will introduce tougher sentences for dealers.
Cathie Craigie your Labour candidate for Cumbernauld & Kilsyth.
Labour's pledges
- We will guarantee an appointment with a GP, nurse or member of the local health team within 48 hours.
- We will introduce tougher sentences for dealers.
- We will reduce class sizes in the key stages of secondary education.
- We will extend free off peak bus travel for pensioners and the disabled to all journeys, Scotland wide.
- Having created 20,000 apprenticeships, we will now increase that number to 30,000.
Working for betters schools
Labour has delivered better education, providing a nursery places for three and four year olds, access to better-equipped schools, more adults per pupil now than ever before, greater opportunities to go on to college or university. We will continue to invest in education so that all of our children can have an excellent start in life.
Dignity for Older People
Labour has listened and acted on the concerns of older people, introducing free personal and nursing care, free local bus travel, free central heating and home insulation. We will continue to provide support for our pensioners by extending free bus travel, Scotland wide, and extend free central heating to more pensioners.
Safer Streets
Labour has delivered record numbers of police, but we need to do more. We must tackle the threat of drugs and deal firmly with serious offenders. I want to see more police on the beat and the introduction of community wardens to work with communities to clamp down on vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
Skills for Life
Labour has delivered 20,000 modern apprenticeships giving young people like Andrew the opportunity to have a skill for life. We will now deliver 30,000 apprenticeships and invest in skills for the future, to support our young people and our employers to provide the opportunities, which will help build a better Scotland.
Dear Voter
It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the people of Cumbernauld & Kilsyth in the Scottish Parliament. My priority is to be accessible to the residents of Cumbernauld & Kilsyth and to represent their views. Living locally, I know the issues, which are important to the people of this area. I run a busy local office, hold regular surgeries and meet and work with community groups to hear their views and to consult on matters relating to the constituency and the Parliament.
Having been your MSP since 1999 I believe that the priorities we face are continuing to raise the standards in our schools; looking after our elderly; providing first class health services; ensuring job opportunities; improving the environment in our local communities; seeing an improved town centre; tackling the transport issues facing Cumbernauld & Kilsyth and cracking down on crime.
The lives of individuals, families and pensioners are improving, with record levels of people in employment and the lowest mortgage rates for a generation. We have made a start over the last four years of devolution; we now need to build on the achievements and work within the devolved government to build a better Scotland-
With your vote on May 1st I pledge to continue to make your priorities my priorities and to work tirelessly on your behalf.
Yours faithfully
Cathie Craigie
