Working for hospital services
I have always made the NHS my priority. It is also a priority for the Labour Party. NHS funding has increased from £4.9 billion in 1999 to nearly £8 billion in 2003-4. We have high quality staff and services for Dunfermline East. I will continue to work with healthcare professionals for the more responsive and improved service we want.
Out and about in the area
Transport is vital to a semi-rural constituency like Dunfermline East. I have campaigned very hard for improvements to public transport in the area and Labour is delivering with the Ferrytoll Park & Ride, free off-peak bus travel for pensioners and a new airport rail link. If re-elected I will continue to work for better transport in the area.
Looking after our environment
The state of the environment is crucial to our quality of life. I have worked hard to ensure that decisions about waste in in this area are taken with regard to the needs of local people. Labour has set tough targets for use of renewable energy sources and recycling in Scotland. I will continue to help you work to make your environment healthy.
A good start in life
A good education is the best start in life. Scottish Labour has poured record investment into our schools. I have worked to bring that investment to Dunfermline East for new or improved schools. I have also been closely involved with the successful campaign to raise the quality of school meals, and encourage children to learn to eat healthily
Dunfermline East Constituency is set to be one of the main beneficiaries of the work that has been undertaken by Labour colleagues at Westminster and in the Scottish Executive to bring the contracts for the new Aircraft Carrier to Rosyth. Thousands of new jobs wil be created in the area as a consequence of all of these efforts. The confidence of the local economy is set to grow and prosper.
I pledge to continue to work hard to serve the interests of the people of Dunfermline East and ask you once again for your support on 1st May.
