- SARAH BOYACK WORKING HARD FOR EDINBURGH CENTRAL
Sarah Boyack working with Alistair Darling MP
This election is about the choice facing you and your family. It is about improving our public services. Our new Scottish Parliament has started this work: with more nurses, teachers and police. I am particularly proud of our package for older people: free personal care, free off-peak local bus travel and free central heating.
At long last, our vital services are getting the injection of long term investment. By working in partnership, Labour has created jobs and growth in Edinburgh. A Labour led Scottish Parliament will raise standards in our schools and build new schools for Tynecastle, Boroughmuir and Broughton. New trams and rail links to the airport will bring long term economic and environmental benefits for the city. More police and local wardens will create safer communities. As MSP I have worked hard to represent constituents and to work with local communities. That campaigning work has paid off with new investment across Edinburgh Central. With your support I can continue that work.
Your vote really does matter - please make it count.
Yours sincerely
Sarah Boyack
A message from Sarah Boyack
"I believe the first Scottish Parliament has made a real difference to people's lives. But there is much more to do."
"In Parliament I have worked tirelessly on a whole range of important local and national issues.
Tackling anti-social behaviour.
I've worked with local campaigners on tackling anti social neighbours, mobile telephone masts, more affordable housing, better bus services, easier access to health services, representing local communities on planning issues and raising the issue of the problems created by current licensing rules.
Investment in public transport.
With new trams coming to Edinburgh, investment in Waverley Station and a rail link to the airport we are now beginning to see a transport system for the 21st century. Only Labour will continue this investment.
Tougher action on drug dealers.
The new Drug Enforcement Agency can now seize drug dealers' assets. I want to see those powers used. Too many communities are wrecked by drug dealing.
Labour cares about pensioners.
That's why we worked in the first Scottish Parliament to deliver free central heating, free local off peak bus travel and free personal care. In the next Scottish Parliament we will extend free bus travel across Scotland.
A future for our children.
We now have new nursery schools and places for 3 and 4 year olds in nursery classes and the new St Thomas of Aquins is open. We have ambitious plans to build new schools, fit for the 21st Century across Edinburgh, with new schools planned for Tynecastle, Boroughmuir and Broughton.
Edinburgh's future assured.
Edinburgh is vital to Scotland's economic future and we need continued investment to improve our schools and create more jobs.
I will work in the next Parliament to ensure debate on new laws to modernise the planning system and create a new framework for investment in tenements, and make our health service more accountable.
There is a great deal still to do. If you re-elect me I will continue to get things done on the issues that matter in Edinburgh Central.
Delivering our promises
- We have reduced class sizes in the early years of primary school, in the next four years we will reduce class sizes in the key stages of secondary education
- We have created 20,000 apprenticeships we will now increase that number to 30,000
- We will guarantee an appointment with a GP, nurse or member of the local health team within 48 hours
- We will extend free off peak bus travel for pensioners and the disabled to all journeys, Scotland wide
- Working with the police we have targeted drug dealers, in the next four years we will introduce tougher sentences for dealers
- Personal details used in election:
- Sarah Boyack has represented Edinburgh Central in the Scottish Parliament since 1999. She served for more than two years as Scotland's Minister for Transport.
Sarah has worked hard for her constituents both locally and whilst she was in government. She lives in the city and knows Edinburgh Central well. She believes strongly in listening to the views of local residents. Sarah would continue to work closely with local residents, and with local community groups, to improve facilities in the constituency.
