- Working for families
The McAlindon family from Garrowhill have welcomed Labour's investment in childcare, education and health. Mum Anne says "Margaret is committed to ensuring families get the services they need. As a mother of two young children I know why childcare, education and the NHS are so important."
Working for communities
Catherine Tarres has lived for many years in Easterhouse. She says, "Margaret has always worked hard for local communities. We all have the right to safe communities and that is why tackling crime and antisocial behaviour has been one of Margaret's top priorities."
Working for pensioners
Bert Ingram from Baillieston is one of Glasgow's leading campaigners for pensioners. He says, "Margaret has been a real support for pensioners in our area. Labour has made a real difference with central heating, free personal care and free bus travel. I know that Margaret will continue to fight for pensioners".
Working for local people
David Cummins from Broomhouse runs the local community hall. He says "Margaret works tirelessly for her constituents. She holds more surgeries than anyone else across the whole constituency. She also opened an office locally and Glasgow Baillieston needs that kind of commitment.
Labour working for you in Glasgow Baillieston
In 1999 the people of Glasgow Baillieston put their faith in Margaret Curran. She has been a strong voice in Scotland's Parliament, standing up for your priorities and concerns:
- Safe and secure communties
- More nurses and doctors and money for the NHS
- Real opportunities for our young people
- Dignity in retirement for our pensioners
Only Scottish Labour is in a position to invest further in our public services. Only Margaret Curran can deliver more teachers, more nurses and more police on May 1st.
Investing in our future
Labour has invested record sums in our young people: in childcare, free fruit, free swimming lessons and in our teachers. We will continue our school building programme and introduce financial support for those staying on at school. Class sizes will be reduced to a maximum of 20 in S1 and S2 for Maths and English.
Making our communities safe
Labour knows we must make our communities safe and secure. That is why have invested record sums in our police forces. We have taken tough action to seize the assets of drug dealers and set up special drug courts. The fight against anti-social behaviour will be one of our top priorities.
A fair deal for the elderly
Labour is securing dignity in retirement for the elderly. That's why we have invested in free personal care, free off-peak bus travel and free central heating for all those pensioners who had no means to keep warm. Pensioners rely more than anyone else on the health service and have benefited from the £4 billion increase in health spending.
Investing in health
Labour has delivered the largest ever hospital building programme and is upgrading your local health centre. We will recruit a further 1,500 nurses and pay them more. GP appointments will be available within 48 hours. We will reform the NHS by abolishing Trusts in favour of Community Health Partnerships.
Margaret Curran has worked hard for the Baillieston constituency and for Glasgow. She has delivered £4 billion of investment in Glasgow's housing for the next 30 years. £27 million is being spent through Glasgow's Better Neighbourhood Fund.
The last four years have made a real difference to the lives of people in the Baillieston Constituency. From nursery places to all 3 and 4 year olds to free personal care for all elderly people, we have delivered real achievements.
