Election policy statement:
You can make the difference
Since 1999 the Liberal Democrats have made a difference in Scotland by abolishing tuition fees and introducing grants for poorer Scottish students studying in Scotland, introducing free personal care for older people, boosting teachers' pay and increasing police numbers to their highest level ever.
The Liberal Democrats want to bring back free eye and dental checks, stop top up fees in Scotland and invest in youth clubs and recreational facilities to help reduce youth crime.
The Lib Dems have been the radical force in Scottish government. More Lib Dem MSPs means that more of our policies can be implemented.
Since 1999 the Liberal Democrats have delivered over eighty percent of their election pledges.
These include free personal care for older people and the abolition of tuition fees.
In the next four years we aim to continue to make a difference for Scotland. You can read our full manifesto on our web site at:-

Liberal Democrats Make The Difference
For four years the Liberal Democrats have been delivering as part of Scotland's partnership Government. Thanks to Jim Wallace's Liberal Democrats many people in Scotland have been given a better deal than south of the border.

Delivering for Students
Mike Pringle supported the Scottish Liberal Democrats demand that tuition fees be abolished and student grants be re-introduced for poorer students.
Applications for places at universities in Scotland are increasing faster than in England, where tuition fees have been kept by the Labour government.
The Labour government in London now plans to increase tuition fees south of the border by up to £3,000 per year.

The Scottish Liberal Democrats have also delivered...
- The £800 million McCrone deal for teachers,
- A Freedom of Information Act with real teeth,
- Record numbers of police officers,
- Higher targets for renewable energy than in the rest of the UK, land reform and
- Reform of judicial appointments.
None of these policies have been implemented south of the border.

Delivering for Older People
Personal and nursing care for older people is now free in Scotland thanks to the Liberal Democrats. This will save pensioners up to £210 a week.
Labour in Scotland opposed the introduction of free personal care until pressure from the Liberal Democrats in the Scottish Parliament forced them to back down.

The election here in Edinburgh South is a straight choice between the Liberal Democrats and Labour.
