COLONEL W. BOYD ANDERSON

LATE Brigade Major of Glasgow Volunteer Infantry Brigade, Colonel Anderson is a son of Mathew Anderson, writer, Glasgow, and was born in the city on 18th August, 1849. He was educated at Glasgow High School, Abbey Park, St. Andrews, and Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities. A solicitor and notary public, and member of Council of the faculty of Procurators in Glasgow, he is a partner in the firm of Andersons & Pattison, writers in the city. He holds the appointment of Clerk to the Glasgow Court Houses Commissioners, is a director of several companies, and has represented the Faculty on the Boards of Anderson's College Medical School and the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College. He has also been a member of the Council of St. Andrew's Ambulance Association for the last seventeen years, and is on the Finance and Medical Committees of that institution. He is the Session Clerk of Park parish.

He held commissions in the 25th Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers, successively the 6th Lanarkshire and the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Highland Light Infantry, from 1871 to 1886, rising from ensign to senior major; and he afterwards received the appointment of Brigade Major under Brigadier General Sir William Cunningham, Bart., V.C., being the first volunteer officer to hold such an appointment. He was a member of Council of the West of Scotland Rifle Association, now the Scottish Rifle Association, and was Chairman of its Council in 1883, the only Major who has attained that position, all other chairmen having been of superior rank. He retired after fully twenty years' service, with the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, the right to wear his uniform, and the Volunteer Officers' decoration.

Colonel Boyd Anderson married in 1880, the only daughter of the late David Croll, engineer, of Rotterdam and Amsterdam, and latterly of Glasgow, and he has a family of one son and five daughters.
