JOHN G. DUNLOP
THE Managing Director of Messrs.
John Brown & Co., Ltd., Clydebank, has one of the longest experiences of
shipbuilding industry on the Clyde. He began his
engineering career in the works of Messrs. Randolph & Elder when that firm was still in Centre Street,
Tradeston. From Centre Street he passed to the management of that firm's new "shops" at Fairfield. Next he became superintendent engineer for the Orient Steamship Line, and finally in 1887 he was appointed manager of Messrs. John Brown & Co.'s yard at Clydebank, when that firm succeeded Messrs. J. & G. Thomson. Mr. Dunlop has turned out a long array of mighty warships and merchant vessels, including several of the finest
ships of the Cunard Line. Among the latest and most notable achievements of his yard were the Inflexible battleship for H.M. Government, and the far-famed ocean greyhound Lusitania for the
Cunard Company two years ago.
