BORN at Osmotherley in the North Riding of Yorkshire, Mr. Kay is a Yorkshireman on the father's side, and on the mother's side half Yorkshire and half Scottish. The name is a typical East Coast one, and may be found in any history of the great eastern county. Mr. Kay was educated in Yorkshire, and received his business training in London, where in 1863 he became a partner in the firm of arthur Kay & Evans. Six years later he came to Glasgow as a partner in the firm of Arthur & Company, in Queen Street, now Arthur & Company, Limited, of which company he remains a director. He has been for many years a director of Glasgow
