COLONEL ROBERT KING

THE Honorary Colonel of the 3rd Battalion of the late Renfrewshire Volunteers is a son of the late Mr. John King of Levernholm, and was born in Glasgow, 27th December, 1837. He received his education in Glasgow High School and University, and early became a partner in the family business, the Hurlet and Campsie Alum Company. On his father's death in 1875 he acquired Levernholm from his elder brother, Sir James King, and has from the first taken an active part in the public work of the county. From the first he was an enthusiastic Volunteer. As a captain in the 3rd battalion of the county regiment he took part in the great review before Queen Victoria on 7th August, 1860. At the review of 1885 he commanded the battalion; and in 1893 he became its honorary colonel.

Colonel King is a Unionist in politics, and a member of the Church of Scotland, and among many other positions of distinction in the City of Glasgow has held the office of Lord Dean of Guild.
