Section 5: Voyage of the Scotia

Allan George Ramsay 1878-1903

Chief engineer Allan George Ramsay had felt ill when Scotia was in the Falkland Islands, but kept quiet, knowing that Bruce would have difficulty finding a replacement engineer. His health deteriorated over the winter and he died of heart problems on 6 August 1903, the only person to die on the expedition. He was buried on the north side of the beach in Scotia Bay as the piper played the Flowers of the Forest.
