This picture shows a finished locomotive leaving the Hyde Park works on a 'road bogie' or low loader, hauled by two steam traction engines.
This was always a spectacular occasion and special arrangements had to be made with the police to make the three mile journey from Springburn to Finnieston, where the engines would be loaded by crane on to ships. The maximum speed allowed was 5 mph and disruption to traffic had to be kept to a minimum.
Hundreds of engines were transported in this way.
