On Saturday 19 May 1956, Petershill Juniors beat Lugar Boswell Thistle 4-1 in the final of the Scottish Junior Cup at Hampden Park in Glasgow. This was the fifth time that Petershill, or the 'Peesy' as they were affectionately known, had won the trophy since their formation in 1897.
The following day, as was traditional, the team did a victory parade around the streets of Springburn and Townhead, the two areas of North Glasgow where the team drew their support from.
The victory parade was carnival in style, with pipe bands followed by large crowds of local men, women and children. On the occasion of this particular parade, D'Agostini, the owner of Princes Cafe in Gourlay Street, distributed free ice cream for the honour of displaying the cup in the front window of his cafe.
