In 1893, Mrs Staff Captain Mobley opened the hall of the Springburn Corps of the Salvation Army in Station Road. Other halls in Cowlairs Road, Gourlay Street and Valleyfield Street were used until a permanent citadel could be built.
This was finally built in Wellfield Street in 1909, and was demolished to make way for the new roadway in the late 1960s. The present citadel in Fernbank Street opened on 4 May 1968.
Older Springburn people fondly remember the Silver Band and Corps marching up Springburn Road every Sunday evening from Flemington Street to their Wellfield Street citadel.
