Petershill Park was founded in 1897, but the first ground of Petershill Junior Football Club was in Arrol Park in Petershill Road. The next ground was in Atlas Park, acquired in 1914 by the Atlas Works for their 'Mons' and 'Marne' munitions works.
After a spell at yet another ground, Hawthorn Park, the club returned to Petershill Road, where the building of the pitch, terracing, pavilion and dressing rooms was performed entirely by volunteers. The central terracing was also covered by volunteer workers in the late 1950s.
The park was officially opened by Lord Provost Alexander Swan on the occasion of the opening game, a friendly between Rangers and Celtic, attended by 28000 fans.
