ROBERT MACKAY
ROBERT MACKAY, West India merchant and rum importer. After the American war, and till the cotton trade obtained a permanent footing, the importation and sale of West India produce formed the most important and profitable part of the business of the city. The counting-house of the firm was in Dunlop Street. Mr. Mackay was associated with his friends, George Macintosh and David Dale, in the unfortunate speculation of these gentlemen and others to establish a cotton spinning factory at Dornoch, in Sutherlandshire. Mr. Mackay died in 1802. (See sketch of George Macintosh.)
